How to Update Java (Windows)

1.   Check whether the latest version of Java is already installed. Open a browser and navigate to https://www.java.com/verify/. You should be directed to the following screen:


2.  Click “Verify Java Version”. If you are working in Chrome, a bar will appear asking you whether to run the Java plugin. Click “Run this time”:




3.    A pop-up window will appear asking for your permission to run the application. Select “Run"




4.    After the Java Detection application has finished running, the website will tell you whether your Java software is up to date. If a newer version of Java is available for your computer, a message similar to the following will appear:



5.    Click “Download Java Now”.
6.    You will be redirected again. Click “Agree and Start Free Download”:


7.    A “.exe” file will downloaded. Close all browsers. Open the file by selecting it from your downloads. Select “Run” when prompted:


An installation wizard will guide you through the rest of the installation.

8.    After Java has finished installing, close the installation wizard. A new window will open, redirecting you to the “Verify Java” webpage. Verify Java again by following steps 1-4.

9.    After updating Java for one browser, it will automatically be updated for all other browsers.
